Lahore Consulate – Kabil Associates has designed numerous projects for the US Department of State, including this unique building in Lahore. The consulate is located in the prime residential district of Lahore near the governor’s residence. IN order to maintain the character of the neighborhood, Kabil Associates preserved the front façade of an existing historical building and added the modern building to the façade. The consulate required very special security protection including forced entry, blast, and perimeters. Kabil Associates designed exquisite detailing of finishes and spaces as the prime engineer/architect for the project.
DCWASA – Kabil Associates was part of the structural responsible for design this $400 million project. Our team designed the denitrification channels, pump station, electrical building, and other related construction. The project was design or 500 year flood protection, seismic design, and other special requirements of DCWASA related to heavy construction. We coordinated work with other structural engineering consultants and our designs and calculations were reviewed and approved by four structural engineers designated by DCWASA. Kabil Associates also provided services during the bidding and construction phases, including RFI, submittal review, site visits, and review of proposed alternatives.
Lincoln Theater – Kabil Associates provided structural and civil engineering services for this award-winning historical building. Our structural engineering services included repairs, preservation, and restoration of the existing building. We designed a new balcony with extensive cantilever in an existing building, as well as a grand bridal staircase from the elevator to the balcony. Our team also designed an addition to the building that was compatible with the existing structure, complimenting it in both design and function. Other new additions included an orchestra pit, modified floor slopes for a better sight line, and acoustic improvements. We designed a new suspended catwalk system to provide access to new lighting and stage equipment.
The civil engineering scope included designs for ADA access, and the restoration of an alley, parking, drainage improvements, and utility reconfiguration. Kabil Associates also provided design for right-of-way improvements.
Columbus Museum of Art – Kabil Associates provided structural engineering services for major renovations and modifications to the CMA building. The scope of work included reinforcement and repair of the structure for accommodating new functions, as well as HVAC and substantial penetrations through the existing structure. Additionally, our team designed an intricate addition within the existing courtyard along with new skylights to create an intriguing space for multiple uses. The structure required special analysis and reinforcement to accommodate the specialized skylight. We also designed a special structural system to facilitate removal of the existing bearing wall of 40+ feet to allow the auditorium space to be expanded. Kabil Associates also provided design restoration and reinforcement of the Ross Wing.
Griggs Reservoir Boathouse – This unique project created a building for recreational and multipurpose use on the banks of the Scioto River. Owned jointly by the Ohio State University and the City of Columbus Department of Parks and Recreation, the building provides a space for the OSU crew team as well as space for public use. Kabil Associates provided structural engineering for the new structure. The lower portion provides storage space for boats while the first floor provides a multipurpose space for meetings, gatherings, and educational purposes. The building has an intricate roof constructed of heavy timber, and the first floor is constructed of precast planks with extensive cantilevers on the river. Kabil Associates helped the design team create a beautiful, functional building.
Tower District Bridges - This specialized pedestrian bridge is the main artery for pedestrian circulation on the OSU campus. Kabil Associates replaced the existing concrete bridge with a new, contemporary structure. The scope included repair and restoration of the Drake Union Bridge as well. The challenge was to design the project so that all the construction could be accomplished within the summer break without interruption to the function of the campus. Kabil Associates ascertained the precise design, field inspected the fabrication in Pennsylvania, and accomplished the project goals on schedule and under budget.
Ohio Statehouse – This $120 million restoration and addition project was unique and challenging. The historical, monumental building provided one of Kabil’s most significant projects. We provided both structural and site engineering services. We design a new connector building and restored/modernized the Senate and Statehouse buildings. Other unique design services included a tunnel under High Street that was constructed in a tight 60-day window; addition and modification of an underground garage; extensive underpinning of the existing structure for construction of new elevators and stairs; structural addition of floors and garage; lowering of the floor for new construction; major penetration through the structures and partial removal of a substantial wall; and replacement/reinforcement of floors.
Courthouse – This $110 million renovation converted the existing historical building to a modern headquarters for the Ohio Supreme Court. Kabil Associates provided structural engineering services. The project required reinforcement of the existing structural for the support of court library loads, a new floor for the library, and removal of a column in the cafeteria. Our team also provided floor penetrations, floor reinforcement, and specialized structural modifications for modified building use. One of the most unique structural challenges was to design a new library floor structural spanning 18 feet within a depth of 6” due to the floor-to-floor height limitation.
